The Sewer Utility maintains, operates, repairs, and constructs mains, pump stations, and treatment plant facilities as required. The Borough’s sewerage system consists of 1 main treatment facility that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with a 1.4MGD design flow, along with 7 sewerage pumping stations, and 30 miles of sewer collection pipes. The Sewer Utility provides consistent sanitary (toilets, drains) sewerage conveyance and treatment to system users. The system collects and conveys wastewater through pump stations throughout the Borough. Effluent water is discharged into the Passaic River. Utility staff monitor flow quantity and composition and maintain compliance with NJDEP regulations. In addition to weekly monitoring and maintenance of the sewage pumping stations, the Sewer Utility uses specialized jetting TV monitoring equipment to maintain and improve system flow, to assess pipe conditions, and to detect potential problem areas.
